Solemnity of All Saints

Dear Friends,

Happy Solemnity of All Saints! What a joyful day for the Church, where we are reminded that we have countless friends in Heaven cheering us on and interceding for us.

The saints have been very present to our parish for this last month, as we were blessed to pray with so many saintly relics each Sunday in October. Looking at these relics was such a profound reminder of the truth of our earthly pilgrimage: that our physical lives are fragile and fleeting, but that the eternal crown of Heaven is our truest goal! Today, on All Saints Day, we bask even more deeply in the reality that we are called to be saints, and that there is a place for us among that glorious gang.

In Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis tells us that “to be a saint is not a privilege for the few, but a vocation for everyone.” This truth can be so easy to forget! It’s easy to feel as if sainthood is reserved only for the perfectly pious and the untouchable few. But holiness looks different for every person. God has designed each of us with such a specific personality and purpose, and we are meant to live out the call to holiness in our own unique way. And when we place Our Lord at the center of our life and point ourselves toward Him, we come alive as the most vibrant version of ourselves! That is who the saints are: men and women who came alive as the people God created them to be, and who now share in the joyful and abundant life of Heaven.

Today is not only All Saints Day, but it also kicks off the Month of the Eucharist for our parish. Throughout this month, we will seek to deepen our devotion to the Holy Eucharist, beginning with today’s Eucharistic Procession.

The Eucharist is the sustenance of saints! It’s in the Eucharist that we are intimately united with Jesus, and it’s in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that we gather around the banquet table of Heaven with the whole communion of saints.

May today’s Solemnity of All Saints inspire us. May it awaken that deep and constant call to holiness that stirs within each of us, and may our journey toward holiness be fueled by the precious gift of the Eucharist.

All you holy men and women, Saints of God, pray for us!
