George Sommer was present in 1893 at the founding of the Newman Club at Penn, the first Newman club in the country. His son, George Jr., also was very involved in the Newman Center in the 1920's. And George Jr.'s sons George III and John would attend Mass at the Newman Center on Spruce Street in the 1960's. John's son, Nicholas Sommer, would later attend Mass at Newman in the early 2000's.
