Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The message of our readings today is so simple: trust in God's providence above all things!!

In the first reading, the author of Wisdom reflects on the faith of the Israelites during the night of the Passover. This night was filled with anticipation as they awaited their deliverance from bondage. Despite the darkness surrounding them, their faith in God’s promise of liberation illuminated their path. Many of us find ourselves in moments when it feels like darkness is closing in, or when we wonder if God will take care of us. It can be so easy in these moments to cling to fear, dwell in anxiety, or fall into despair. But like the Israelites, God has promised us that he will never abandon us, and that he will seek us when we are lost. When in darkness… take courage in His promises.

In the second reading, from Hebrews, we’re blessed with a beautiful description of faith as "the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen." It draws on the example of Abraham, who, even when he could not understand how God could guide him and give him his promised descendants, did not waver in his faith. Abraham's journey was marked by trust and obedience, setting out for a land unknown, assured only by his trust in God's word and promise.

Finally, in the Gospel Jesus encourages us: "Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom." Ponder this: Jesus calls us “little flock”, and reminds you that your Father is “pleased/delighted/ecstatic” to provide for you and to pour out His abundant love into your heart. He says: “Would you please fix your eyes on my providence in your life and trust in me?” Fear not, little flock! It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
