Solemnity of Sts. Peter & Paul

Dear Friends,

Each Sunday since Pentecost, we have continued to celebrate the rippling joys of Easter in each Sunday liturgy. Last week, we observed Corpus Christi; today, we honor the feast of Saints Peter and Paul.

Who is Peter? Who is Paul? Christian tradition regards St. Peter and St. Paul as inseparable pillars of the Gospel of Christ, embodying both its fullness and  human experience. They are remembered not only for their enthusiasm and generous spirit but also for their moments of infidelity, denial, and humiliation —reminders of the risks and vulnerabilities inherent in our human nature. Their lives teach us that the journey of faith is not a triumphal march but a daily path marked by suffering, love, trials, and steadfast faith.

The New Testament letters reveal the intense hardships and sufferings that shaped these two great saints. Despite facing constant challenges, they carried a deep awareness of Jesus’ abiding presence. They understood that through the gift of Baptism every Christian is initiated into the life of Christ (Romans 6:3-5). St. Paul experienced this truth profoundly in today’s second reading: “the Lord will rescue me...and will bring me safely to his heavenly Kingdom.” Their prayers were filled with the expectation that the Lord would come.

St. Peter and St. Paul, pray for us! May we, like you, continually bless the Lord and take refuge in Him. Fill us with the expectant hope that our own weaknesses may be transformed by Jesus’ grace into His likeness.
