Prayer For Beginners by Peter Kreeft

Peter Kreeft brings his unique insights to the most important area of our spiritual lives, prayer. He claims he himself is still a beginner in prayer, and this book is for all those, like him, who feel that they struggle to pray well, but desire to become better at it. Thus, Kreeft offers simple, but profound advice and practical steps for developing a prayer life based on the time-tested wisdom of the saints and great spiritual writers, especially the principles found in Brother Lawrence's classic, The Practice of the Presence of God.

In short, straight-forward, and unsentimental chapters, Kreeft covers all the key areas for understanding and developing that intimate form of communication with our Creator that we call prayer. He covers such areas as the necessity of prayer, various motives and methods, steps, patience, suffering, sin, faith, and grace.

WRITINGS OF ST THOMAS AQUINAS

First of I am grateful for Fr. David our pastor and staff for opening the door for us parishioners to use Symbolon and now Formed. This is a great book by Peter Kreeft. He did an excellent job in expounding each of the hundred ways of St Thomas spiritual direction. Peter's explanation applies to current situations, he supported it sometimes by verses from the Bible & sometimes from other great authors of our time; which makes it easier to understand the hundred ways. I downloaded this book last summer and finished reading before Christmas last year. It took me a while because every night I had the chance to read I wanted to have each 'way' to sink into my head. Thank you .

This book has some good thoughts on prayer by Dr. Peter Kreeft. It is not an essential read, but will be found to be beneficial for souls in any stage of spiritual formation. May we learn to practice the presence of God continually though prayer. Amen.
