Welcome to the Music Ministry at St. Agatha St. James! Every Sunday, we try to be an expression of our parish’s faith life, and to be a reflection of God’s beauty. We make an effort to balance of participative and contemplative music and to offer opportunities to praise God in number of different musical styles. We are always looking for people who are willing to donate their time and energy toward making our liturgies more prayerful and heartfelt. We make an effort to accommodate busy student schedules, offering the freedom to come and go as your studies require.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sean Wood and I am the Music Coordinator at St. Agatha-St. James Parish. I have had the honor of being Music Coordinator here since July 2017. Before I came to the parish, I taught piano, violin, and voice at the Meridee Winters School of Music in Ardmore, PA, from 2013-2017. Violin is my first instrument; I played with various Philadelphia youth orchestras in high school and went to the PMEA All-State Orchestra Festival in 2007. Since 2017, I have been the music teacher at Martin Saints Classical High School in Oreland, PA, where I direct the choir and teach music appreciation and theory to 9th- and 10th-graders. I am also a student at West Chester University, studying for an M.M. in Music History and Literature. My bachelor’s degree is from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where I majored in religious studies. The thing I like the most about my work at the parish are those moments when I can hear from the choir loft that almost everyone in the congregation is singing (for example, when we do “O Come All Ye Faithful” at Christmas). I look forward to meeting anyone who is interested in getting involved in our rewarding and beautiful work.
How To Join
How to join:
Each Mass has a one hour rehearsal (except for the 9 am, which has a 45-minute one) before Mass. No weekly commitment is required. Advance notice to email@example.com is appreciated but not required.
You may also join our Parish Choir, which meets on Tuesdays at 6 pm during the academic year in the Newman Center. This group prepares for and sings at special parish events, especially the Easter Triduum. This does require a willingness to come each week.
Our Programs In Detail
We lead the music for all 4 Sunday Masses. You are always welcome to join any of these at any time - rehearsals take place in the loft one hour before Mass.
9 am Mass: Standard hymnal repertoire.
11:30 am Mass: Standard hymnal repertoire, usually celebrated as a Solemn Mass.
5:30 pm Mass: Folk-style guitar Mass.
9 pm Mass: Mix of hymnal repertoire and more contemporary music.

The Parish Choir, which meets on Tuesdays at 6 pm in the Newman Center during the academic year, exists to provide special music for the parish’s special occasions, to provide a consistent opportunity to grow musically, and to build community. No audition is required, but a willingness to (roughly) commit to weekly rehearsals is required.
Non- liturgical music:
Adoration after Wednesday-night Mass, First Friday Adoration, retreats, Open Mic nights
Interested in praise-and-worship? We have multiple opportunities for this: at Adoration after Wednesday-night Mass, Adoration before First-Friday Mass, and the 9 pm Sunday Mass. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
Contact: We are always interested in hearing from you if you’re interested in volunteering, or if you have feedback about the kind of music that you find most beautiful and helpful in Mass. Please drop us a line at any time if you have any questions, concerns or thoughts about our music.
