FUNERALS AT ST. AGATHA - ST. JAMES

Arrangements

A family member of the deceased or the funeral director may call the rectory to arrange for a Mass of Christian Burial for a deceased parishioner of St. Agatha-St. James.

Participation

The Mass of Christian Burial, like all Masses invites, full, conscious, active participation, so family members may become involved, if they wish, in the mass preparation, in various capacities. Family members may select scripture readings, choose competent lectors, and select people to bring the gifts of Bread and Wine to the altar.  A lay person may also conduct a brief prayer service at the graveside in the event that the priest is unable to accompany the funeral procession to the cemetery.      St. AJ provides a brief Interment Prayer Service for this purpose.  Of course the funeral director may also offer the interment prayers. Family members are encouraged to contact the priest to discuss family involvement.   A family member may also offer a brief eulogy at the conclusion of the Mass under certain circumstances and according to certain guidelines. This needs to be discussed with the priest before hand.

Music

Music is highly desirable but not necessary.  If you desire a musician and/or vocalist, the priest will put you in touch with musicians who sing at our regular Sunday Masses.  You may also wish to employ musicians and vocalists of your own choosing, in which case, you may need to employ a musician from the parish to familiarize visitors with microphone and keyboard set up.  In either case, hymn selection and financial arrangements are made with the musicians themselves.

Church Offering

The amount of any offering to the church is at your discretion.
