A sketch of St. James first church as it appeared in the latter part of the last century to the left is the rectory, still in use; while in the right background is the old school, torn down in 1928.

St. James Rectory built by Fr. Martin around 1869.  The porch, granite wall and iron grating were added in 1928.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Erected in 1928, St. James Parochial School replaces the sixty-eight yr-old "Red Schoolhouse" which stood on the same site.

St. James was proud when the boys were selected to supply music for Catholic Day at the Educational Exhibition for the Blind on March 7, 1929.  The following boys were chosen:  Buglers, Joseph McHugh, Herbert Liston, Joseph McCreesh, James Dougherty, Lawrence Agar, John Williams, Edward Burns, Harry Murray, John O'Donnell, James Strain, John Enright and Charles Mynaugh.  The drummers were :  Jack Liston, Francis Dugan, Robert Dinan, Joseph Smith, James Thornton, Charles Young and Frank Kelly.  Drum Major, Joseph O'Hanlon; Bass Drummer, Edward Emerson; Cymbal Player, George Haggerty.

 

 

Among the improvements undertaken by the pastor in 1930 was the construction of this beautiful bapistery.  It had previously been the altar boys' sacristy.
